Visit the largest wooden structure in the Western Hemisphere at Saint Peter and Paul Basilica, recently upgraded to the status of a basilica. Built in 1885 and restored in 2010, the imposing wooden building features a peaceful interior, made completely of Surinamese cedar wood. Inside, you can view the grave of missionary priest Peter Donders, three different-sized bells in the tower, and intricate decorations and designs in the woodwork.   • I visited this cathedral on a Sunday and didn't dare to go further inside then the back. Although I was wearing a shirt and my shorts came to over my knees, I didn't think it was a good idea to wander...  more »
  • The cathedral is made entirely of wood and wonderful. It is really worth to take a look inside.
