Presidential Palace, Paramaribo

(75+ reviews on the web)
Government Building
Admire one of the best-preserved examples of Dutch colonial architecture at Presidential Palace, part of Paramaribo's World Heritage-listed historical center. This three-story white building, located across from the main square, was built in 1730 and remains the residence of the president of Suriname. Though you probably cannot gain entrance, you can walk around the exterior, taking in the symmetrical stone construction and wooden upper floor. Then visit the palm garden behind the building, home to capuchin monkeys as well as tropical birds. Proximity to the national assembly, court of justice, and ministry of finance makes this a convenient stop on a walking tour. Plan your visit to Presidential Palace and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Paramaribo trip generator.

  • Too bad you can't can visit after the restoration. A truly authentic building, over two hundred and fifty years old. Sunday morning on the lawn a passerine bird competition, don't miss this activity when in Paramaribo.

  • Only saw the building form the outside. Would be great to see inside. From the outside it looks well cared for and well worth seeing.  more »
  • ... we can not visit. And more is on the edge of a road without sidewalks so we look at from the outside and by far, this is fairly limited as interest, no?

  • This wooden building is one of the remnants of the Ducth colonial era. If one visits #Suriname a visit is recommended.
  • It's a good place to visit and learn more of the heritage of suriname
