Nature / Park
Explore the jungle just minutes from the city at Peperpot Nature Park. The nature trail winds through dense tropical forest and welcomes walkers and bike riders along its approximately 3 km (1.86 mi) length. Watch for inhabitants like monkeys, sloths, butterflies, lizards, and many species of birds. Informational signage lines the trail, informing visitors about the many different types of jungle flora and fauna that can be found. Come prepared with bug spray, as the tropical climate also supports a plethora of mosquitos. Put Peperpot Nature Park and other Paramaribo attractions into our Paramaribo tourist route planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • We have plantation Peperpot bike from Paramaribo visited. The visitor centre of the natuurpak has a small exhibition about history. Through a long straight path then we cycled to the plantation itself. We were probably too late because a single bird and lizard no animals in there. The plantation homes are only outdoor tour but here is missing some notes, a Board with a map of the existing buildings would not hurt.

  • In Commewijne is Peperpot Nature park is a must. When we arrived was the entrance closed (or that by the big rainy season came or that it is close in its entirety, was unknown) Via a landscaped path you can follow a scenic route where you sapacara's see, different species of monkeys, turtles and other animals identified yet (for us). Only downside is that the right path is so you run it actually twice (round trip) worth a visit.

Where to stay in Paramaribo

Paramaribo is packed with guesthouses, which make this town an extremely appealing destination for backpackers. The least expensive option in town, some of these establishments offer very basic rooms and shared restrooms without hot water--ask about on-site facilities before checking in. Dozens of mid-range hotels provide a more suitable option for families with kids, business travelers, and anyone else looking for a few more perks. If you're planning to stay longer, consider renting a furnished apartment in a residential neighborhood.
