Stroll among royal palms at Palmentuin, planted on orders of the Dutch governor in the late 17th century. The garden offers as a break from the city hustle and provides plenty of tree-shaded areas for relaxing strolls. In addition to over 1,000 royal palms, the garden features a kid-friendly playground. • The Palmentuin Palmtree garden is a location which used to be the governors garden. With the intense heat in Surinam a stroll there can be comforting to you as well as it was to the governor  more »
  • Place is very calm and big for nice walks . Or functions . I went to the festival and it was very pleasant nice people and well situated  more »
  • The Palm Garden I found quite monotonous and boring, there was nothing else to do besides the palm trees. Also there were almost no other people.

  • The Palmgarden is a must see for visitors to #Suriname. The history of this garden is connected to that of the wooden Presidential palace of the country which is adjacent to it. #Paramaribo
  • Nice place to take a walk during daytime.
  • Impressive array of palm tree's, niche place for chilling in the shade
  • Good place to have a rest. Check out Zus&Zo across the street from west entrance for drinks and tours.
  • Really nice for a stroll.

Where to stay in Paramaribo

Paramaribo is packed with guesthouses, which make this town an extremely appealing destination for backpackers. The least expensive option in town, some of these establishments offer very basic rooms and shared restrooms without hot water--ask about on-site facilities before checking in. Dozens of mid-range hotels provide a more suitable option for families with kids, business travelers, and anyone else looking for a few more perks. If you're planning to stay longer, consider renting a furnished apartment in a residential neighborhood.
