Categories: Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
3.5/5 based on 65+ reviews on the web
Sightseers and history buffs will find plenty to admire in Jodensavanne, a historical migrant community established by persecuted Jews fleeing Spain in the early 15th century. With the entire community uprooting to the nation's capital of Paramaribo, the town's synagogue is still maintained annually by a small dedicated group of Jewish-Surinamese people. Take a guided tour for a personal touch as well as an excellent glimpse into the very beginnings of Suriname's Jewish community; many guides are the knowledgeable descendants of the original immigrants.
