  • This is petty far from the city and we got here by a hired car. The fort wall itself is gone but some old buildings remain. A good half day-trip.  more »

  • The Fort has historically been an important place for Suriname. The open-air museum, for which you pay a small entrance, offers many military, interesting building and exhibition objects. Unfortunately seems to have in English and not very little interest in this museum guests speaking Dutch. Many exhibits are just labeled Dutch. The museum itself is very nice and has a park-like design. It loads to the stroll (if it's not too hot) a. We were there on a Sunday. On one such day, many locals use the parks around the open-air museum for recreation. It brings his meals and the entire family and enjoying life outdoors in the beautiful surroundings. We have chosen the ferry at the end of the "Anton"Drachtenweg to get the Fort Nieuw Amsterdam

  • Fort New Amsterdam is an Historical site located at the corner of two rivers. The Suriname river and the Commewijne river. There is almost always a cool breeze coming from the Atlantic Ocean. The site also has a small museum. partly open-air. but nice to absorb some of the country's history. along the ponds you have the good chance to see the Victoria Regina " lotus flower in bloom. And if you are there during lunch hours, you can find some 'Javanese cuisine" in the so called "Warungs" or at the cafeteria of the museum.
  • Relax, quiet, and a lot to learn about the place, and this country Suriname.
  • There is lot's of stuff to see!
  • Horrible..few cannon laying around here and there...no remnants of the real fort left..mosquitoes all over...
  • We 've been there for a few time. Nice historical and unique place in Surinam with an enormous potential. Ps I'm NOT the creator of all the photos so all credits to them.
