Immaculate Conception Church, Castries

Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.1/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web
Admire the ornate, vivid interior of Immaculate Conception Church, seat of Castries' archbishop. Built in 1897, the 61 m (200 ft) by 30 m (100 ft) church features a brick and stone exterior, which arguably belies the dazzling scene within. Step inside to admire the interior's elaborate mural depicting biblical scenes, painted by St. Lucian artist Dunstan St. Omer. Pay special attention to the painting above the intricately carved altar, detailing the island's patron Saint Lucia. Enjoy the quiet (and the shade) of the peaceful interior. A visit to Immaculate Conception Church represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Castries trip itinerary builder to plot your vacation.
