  • This place is huge, all under cover stalls and if you can’t find what you are looking for here, maybe it doesn’t exist. Almost everything is made in St Lucia—much credit to the local entrepreneurs and...  more »
  • Before embarking on the coast, rainforest cableway return trip with the 03/01, we wandered to Castries visiting her multicolored, multi market perfumed. Fruits, spices and a huge variety of liquors, rum in the lead, show local stalls. We tasted a local specialty: a great fry bread (€0.80) prepared a battered camper. Quaint and true. A peculiarity intrigued me quite a bit in front of the market: on the walls had been scribbled a municipal decree that resembled the absolute ban on several occasions "to urinate" on the walls.

  • Wonderful experience. If you enjoy social interaction with friends and strangers alike in you'll love the meet and greet of this market place. You will find everything for seasonings, fruits and ground provisions all fresh picked. You will also find a variety of fish and other meats.
  • Some other reviewers were correct when they say that you see a lot of the same stuff with each different vendor you visit, but there is a lot of neat things if you look around hard enough. Price is always negotiable and you can pick up a couple handmade souvenirs for just a few bucks. The way I see it you are visiting a foreign country where a lot of the locals aren't exactly well off - spending a few dollars to support the local economy is not a bad thing. If you are in to cooking they sell a wide variety of spices for cheap.
  • Place is full of Street vendors for local shopping , there are lot of restaurants with different cuisine. I enjoyed in one of the bar barbeque chicken drumsticks which was marinated in ginger garlic. Aroma of barbeque attracts you to test it. For that you need to little bit inside the market. You can enjoy chilled beers along with food.
  • The place to purchase fresh local produce from vendors, be prepared to haggle prices in order to make the most of your hard earned dollars!
  • The market is pretty cool nice ppl nice stuff sold in there if u haven't visited u should.

Where to stay in Castries

With an abundance of shops, restaurants, and the famous harbor, there's certainly plenty to see in town, but most tourists choose to stay near the island's beaches, like Vigie, Malabar, Choc, and La Toc. All are very easy to reach by taxi or bus. In the capital itself, you'll find a handful of guesthouses and hotels, many with their own pools, and all within walking distance of the main stores and the ferry terminal.
