Mount Liamuiga, St. Kitts

Categories: Volcanos, Mountains, Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
4.2/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web
Challenging hikes with unparalleled scenic beauty, Mount Liamuiga is not for the faint hearted. A stratovolcano with an elevation of 1,156 m (3,792 ft), the highest point in St Kitts, it was formally named "Mount Misery", an indication of the hiking difficulty levels here. A diverse landscape, many trails begin at the old mango forest woodlands, then on into buzzing dense rainforests. If you make it to the top, you'll experience a mesmerising trail through Cloud Forest, then a walk to the edge of a 1 km wide (0.6 mi) volcano crater, a breath-taking chasm with spectacular views. Numerous tour guides operate here. Be sure to wear proper hiking footwear, and if possible, hiking poles. As with all strenuous hikes, bring plenty of water. A visit to Mount Liamuiga represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Sandy Point Town vacation planner to plot your vacation.

  • Climbing Mount Liamuifa was a wonderful experience! The most difficult is really to find the beginning of the hiking path, located at the end of a rocky road. The path starts behind a white metal grid. Follow then the route is fairly easy for a person knowing hike and follow the guides (now present all along the route, marked by paint and plastic strips). Widely feasible without a guide, be careful because the end of the course is similar to climbing on slippery rocks! If you want to save $ 100 and enjoy at your own pace as me... Provide a good minimum liter of water, and suitable shoes, really!... You'll end up soaked, all way by your sweat but certainly also by the rain! The top view is simply beautiful and the breaking of invigorating fresh air! The reward of 2 H of climbing :)
