Brimstone Hill Fortress, St. Kitts

Take a long hike up to Brimstone Hill Fortress for impressive vistas and a slice of colonial history. Made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, the fortress has been restored to high standards, despite lying in ruin for over 100 years. Once at the top, you’ll observe beautiful panoramas of mountains, oceans, and sprawling countryside, so don't forget your camera. Admire the original cannons that defended this outpost, and absorb the information displayed on the many plaques. You can grab snacks and refreshments from nearby stalls, and browse through plenty of souvenirs from the gift shop. Easily the best attraction in St. Kitts and Nevis. From the top of the Fortress you can see all of the neighbouring islands, as well as most of St. Kitts itself, so it's a good place for photos etc. T...  more »

A must-see visit if you are on this beautiful island! Well documented history about this fortress that was made a National Park about 30 years ago. You can easily spend an hour there, with stunning views of Sint Eustacius, Saba, Sint Maarten, St Barths and Nevis on the other side. And of course the Mt Liamuiga behind that usually stands in the clouds. All of that for around 5 bucks, totally worth it! Do not miss it, one of the fiew UNESCO sites of the Caribbean!

Where to stay in Sandy Point Town

While Sandy Point Town itself remains very limited in terms of accommodations, you can easily access it from anywhere on the island by car or bus. Look for rental property options in neighboring towns, or hotels in the capital. If planning your visit during the annual St. Kitts Music Festival (at the end of June each year), book your lodgings at least a few months ahead.
