Independence Square, Basseterre
(3.2/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web)
Head to Independence Square and see what was once the site of the slave market of Basseterre. Slaves would arrive from Africa and were held in a building located on the south side of the square until they were brought out and then sold to their new masters. Featuring a central fountain surrounded by walkways, flat green glass, and benches under the shade of nearby trees, the square is also the location of important buildings, such as the city's cathedral and courthouse. A visit to Independence Square represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Basseterre holiday planner to plot your vacation.

  • In the center of Basseterre you will find Independence Square, it is surround by some of the oldest and most important building St Kitts have.
  • With a map did a walk by the helmet historical coming to this plaza, place historic and tourist, as was there was the market of slaves of the island, its name independence not know to which independence corresponds, found very little information historical. We arrived with much heat in search of shade and square has important trees but we find many locals who occupied all the banks, in the Center a beautiful Fountain, more maintenance is missing but worth the visit. To learn about the lifestyle of the locals see where make their purchases especially supermarkets was impressed by the scarcity and poor quality of food and drinks.
