Independence Square, Basseterre

2.1
Head to Independence Square and see what was once the site of the slave market of Basseterre. Slaves would arrive from Africa and were held in a building located on the south side of the square until they were brought out and then sold to their new masters. Featuring a central fountain surrounded by walkways, flat green glass, and benches under the shade of nearby trees, the square is also the location of important buildings, such as the city's cathedral and courthouse.
