Unawatuna Beach, Unawatuna

3.8
Nestled in a secluded cove and protected by a coral reef, Unawatuna Beach resembles a huge saltwater wave pool. The combination of golden sand and laidback atmosphere appeals to visitors from distant corners of the world, who come here to rent a beach shack, grab a cocktail, and watch the waves roll by--and swim and snorkel, of course. Visitors can also rent kayaks and jet skies, or go on a guided fishing trip. Amenities include a number of bars, restaurants, and shops. • A pleasant beach with many Beach Café. Each Café there are plank beds with canopies or umbrellas. Subject to order food and drinks in the Café, you can enjoy the sun loungers all day. The Beach Strip is wide and long. Pretty crowded. Swimming with children is not recommended. Because the depth of 2 meter starts from the water's edge. Need to know how to swim. The waves are relatively small compared to other places on the West Coast, because the Bay is located in Unawatuna. On the beach, running around the local dogs, but do not interfere. You can ride a scooter, "tablet". Local offer excursions to the nearby reef for snorkelers. Not worth it-money thrown away. Corals are dead animals. For the sake of snorkelers worth to go to Hikkaduvu. There are fish, turtles, Octopus. Although, of course, a variety of flora and fauna are poorer compared with Egypt, for example. We love to swim a lot and for a long time, so it is ideal for us Unawatuna beach.)

  • Beach. Very dirty water in packages, cans, spoons and other debris. Right parked boats in large numbers. Not visible from the sea, what is happening on the loungers. There are beggars with a snake and obezjanoj. The impression of a hideous, like in a swamp with garbage

  • You can really relax here and have some interesting time. Water is fine - clean and warm :) We spent all nights here. Food is very good in the restaurants, but is not worth going to expensive ones. Th...  more »

  • A bit better than in earlier years. Nice fine sand beach front. Fairly clean with loads of ocean fronted little restaurants. All in the same style though. No surf!
  • Love this beach.. love the colour of the sea but the waves are really rough. And there’s a pretty strong current too. So be careful if you swim there. A good place to surf too.. there are so many restaurants and hotels around so plenty of places to grab some food and drinks. Not dear at all. Love the sea so much and been there many times and will definitely go again too.. heard that they have beach parties there but never been to one. But I’m sure that it’s amazing at night
  • Lovely beach. Loads of bars, restaurants and hotels. The waters edge is quite steep and the waves can drag on the way out so some care is needed. Fantastic place. Quiet when I was there (Oct) though I can imagine it gets very busy. Quite a few sellers of "wares".
  • A beautiful beach Famous among Tourists. A wide Area to bath. Superb place You can hire a boat to watch Corel's in the deep sea. I recommend this beach 🏖 as one of the best in Galle. Having a jungle look hidden place.
  • One of the best beaches in Sri Lanka. Sea waves are mild and the water is shallow. Anyone can play around in the water without fear. Boat rides are available and they also provide a great explanation about the surroundings, sea life and history if you ask them
