Unawatuna Beach, Unawatuna

3.8
Nestled in a secluded cove and protected by a coral reef, Unawatuna Beach resembles a huge saltwater wave pool. The combination of golden sand and laidback atmosphere appeals to visitors from distant corners of the world, who come here to rent a beach shack, grab a cocktail, and watch the waves roll by--and swim and snorkel, of course. • Fantastic beach! Beautiful coloured water, and fairly strong waves. Loads of restaurants and resorts along the beach, but far enough away from the shore that they didn't invade the beach itself. It's relatively clean and easy to get to from Galle-just jump on a bus for 25 rupees. Would recommend for an afternoon or even a whole beach holiday.
  • Lovey beach, but expensive, would not eat at the restaurants around the beach area. Some nice hotels and places to sit. Relatively clean beach. Could improve Nice temperature sea, fun waves Missing the 5th star as you can’t see the sun set over the water, but not much we can do about that.
  • The best beach so far, lot of places yet to visit, if you are a tourist and are wondering which beach to hit first.. This is the one ... Food is amazing and the experience to dine and watch the sea is thrilling.
  • This beach is just serene. Although the sand is a bit coarse. However, the waves are very mild. As you step into the water it may seem like you're in a swimming pool. The water is neck deep (I'm 5'2) and you could swim further up ahead in to the sea. Unawatuna has a lot of water sports, you could go snorkelling and scuba diving here. The whole beach has shacks and you could get a beach bed for free if you order food and bevs from the shacks. In the evening the whole place has a very fairy tale feel to it.
  • Beach is good and safe to swim and bath. But very crouded and the beauty is stolen buy buildings all along the beach
