(3/5 based on 2,200+ reviews on the web)
Embark on a safari into Yala National Park, Sri Lanka’s most popular national park and a bustling wildlife sanctuary, housing an array of wild animals. The second largest national park in the country, it boasts one of the highest densities of leopards in the world, so if you’re lucky you might spot this elusive predator. Driving through the semi-arid plains and grasslands, you'll almost certainly encounter elephants, sloth bears, macaque monkeys, water buffalo, and a variety of other animal species. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Tissamaharama holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Yala National Park and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • We were birding there, so the lack of leopards (we were told none were seen the day we visited) was of no consequence. Recent rains had made the roads really rough, but otherwise it was a terrific pla...  more »
  • What a disappointment. Morning safari, where races 400 safari jeeps into the Park, on roads that are so smashed that you 100% have tasted on your breakfast several times! The animals are as evaporated, but you may suspect peacocks and "something" in the distance if you are lucky! Exaggeration promotes understanding, but after 4 hours, this was what we saw: 7 peacocks, approximately 10 water buffalo, 2 monkeys, 2 monitors 1 crocodile, deer, and that was it!
