Learn about a UNESCO World Heritage site at Sigiriya Museum, an attraction dedicated to three decades of archaeological research on the ancient rock structure. View a detailed diorama of the site and consider the theory that Sigiriya was once a Buddhist monastery, although most believe a palace or fortress stood here. Admire artifact displays of tools, jewels, sculptures, and even a human skeleton, and do not miss the prehistoric section highlighting the area's inhabitants from thousands of years ago. When you've finished, climb the rock fortress for sweeping views of the area. Very basic but very cool museum. Only takes about 30 minutes to do it all properly. Loads of pics and history which was pretty cool to know before you go up the rock!
Visited the museum after the climb & walk around the grounds. It was informative and gave good information on the site. Good clean bathrooms as well.

Amazing site! There is a reason Its a UNESCO heritage site. Visit the museum for more info and cool pictures also. Access was pricey IMO but worth it also. You can also visit a few temples along the way or way back to city. Many hotels if you want to stay in the area. Highly recommend you go as early as possible to avoid the strong heat, humidity and many tourists!

A must visit if in Sri Lanka. Not much to see in regards to the ruins a top of the mountain but the frescos on your way up are totally worth the trip. Also the gardens will more than make up for the lack of ruins as they are immaculate and interesting. The top of the mountain is a great spot for a picnic so bring food/drinks and enjoy the views.
Worthwhile climb with various levels to stop and enjoy the view from - a lot of history here. Although we were told to go early we went in the afternoon and it was perfectly fine. Might want to check the weather forecast - wouldn't want to be stuck up there if it rained!
Amazing views after a vigorous hike up the hill. Go early to beat the waves of tourists particularly the young and elderly who drastically slow the ascent. The price is steep at 4260 LKR but it's a pretty unique and awe inspiring place.
