4.8
#2 of 14 in Things to do in Sigiriya
Landmark Tourist Spot
Hike up Pidurangala Rock, a geological feature offering extensive views of the verdant hilly landscape and an atmosphere of seclusion and contemplation. Standing opposite a larger, more frequented hill, the rock possesses a different charm to its touristy brother, with a quiet and peaceful Buddhist temple at its foot, and a giant reclining Buddha statue in a secluded cave part way up. The ascent takes around half an hour, with a medium difficulty scramble over some boulders near the top, so wear suitable footwear. The views from the top make the exertion worthwhile. Where to stay in Sigiriya

Offering an introduction to the history and culture of the state, Panjim sits above a wide river and boasts a laid-back, cosmopolitan atmosphere. Wearing its colonial heritage proudly in its contemporary multiculturalism, Panjim represents one of the most accessible and international cities in the country. Historical attractions in Panjim include a number of colonial Portuguese churches and other storied buildings, lining the leafy thoroughfares and dotting the knotted streets of the main European-influenced districts. The whitewashed architecture of the walkable city center gives way to golden beaches to the south along the coast--popular day trip ideas with locals and tourists alike.

  • Awesome hike with stunning views - much better alternative to Sigiriya rock. Take proper shoes, at the very top the hike gets a bit tricky! At the bottom you need to buy the ticket (~500 rupees).
  • A must visit place in dambulla..the beauty of the surrounding is awesome.. you need to climb up to the top of the rock to enjoy that beauty..
  • It is less than one hour hike. But at the top you can have a wonderful sight of Sigiriya rock. Good place for some photographs.
  • Nice hike . It will take you less 1 hour to reach the top. Breath taking view Don't wear flip flop !!
  • Nice place for sunrise view. Best view of the Lion Rock from here. Start at a monastery half an hour before sunrise. The final climb is a bit hard, not for everybody. It costs 500 rupi as opposed to the Lion Rock 4700 rupi.
