  • The Horton Plains Park offers landscapes and flora unique to Sri Lanka. Ascension of the Kirigalpotta is an interesting alternative to the too busy ride to the famous World's End. Here, it is a real hike where occur in a wide variety of landscapes: savannah, rhododendron bushes, undergrowth of jungle... before a move on to the 2nd highest mountain of the country to 2400 m., 360 ° view is beautiful. And privilege, we were the only ones! While at the World's End, there were hundreds of tourists... This hike is much less crowded and yet is not very difficult. At the end, it goes wrong and the roots on the way can be treacherous. We therefore have to be equipped with good waterproof walking shoes because there are a few muddy passages. The round-trip distance is 15km. It took us 4 hours + 30 minutes of contemplation at the top. The path is signposted at the start and then easy to follow. To be sure to not get lost, I advise you to follow your progress on Google Maps, because the path is there! Just load the map before when you have wifi. Of course, get there early, because then the mist surrounds the Summit. From Haputale, the road is long enough so we have to leave at 5 in the morning to be at the entrance to the Park at 6:30. For those who like to walk in the nature, it is much better than the rise to Ella's Rock to Ella that had left us on our hunger.
