Landmark
Admire the 6 m (19.5 ft) tall Buddha statue at Angurukaramulla Temple, before entering to see colorful paintings and sculptures. At the very entrance, you'll see a sculpture of dragon, which protects the temple from evil spirits. Step inside and you'll find yourself surrounded by ancient murals, paintings, and colorfully adorned deities, especially on the ceiling of the shrine room. The temple tells the stories of the queens and kings who used to rule the country, as well as depicting Buddha’s journey to enlightenment. Trees surround the temple, and in the center you can see a pond full of turtles. A monk will take you on a free tour around the temple, although you might be expected to make a small donation and sign the guest book. • It is indeed surprising to see such a temple in the city. It is not very big, but it attracts attention. The Interior is beautifully decorated, much more beautiful than any other temple most reputable. Admission is free, but a monk ask a small fee to exit.

  • Without doubt, this temple is definitely the best temple in Negombo area. The sculpture of the Buddha and paintings inside are somewhat impressive. However, if you have traveled in India or Nepal, the...  more »

  • A nice place to go and visit. They ask you for a donation at the end and you can sign the visitor's book.
  • It was quite a beautiful temple with a good tour guide inside to help & explain. Whilst I'm not religious, it's great to get a perspective on others. The area itself you need to be wearing appropriate clothing (or else you're given additional clothes to wear on top), and on hot days (most days), it'll be hot in there.
  • A beautiful temple. alot of historic and religious sculptures and paintings are here
  • A temple very popular among Buddhists. Worth a visit.
  • One of the best temple in gampaha district.
