  • Impressed by the cross with the statue of Jesus-more precisely, what is left of it in the wake of the devastating floods. From the statue remained only hands that and decided to leave. Jesus himself is in a recess under the cross. The Church is very beautiful and comfortable, with many statues which are on the outside and in the courtyard.

  • The miraculous statue of Our Lady of Matara ia about 400 years old. Several experts in Europe have stated that the statue appears to be similar to the Portuguese of the 17th century. It is cut out of one solid piece of ash wood. This statue has a story intertwined with the sea. It wad found in the sea, again misplaced in the ship while sailing and again washed away during the December 2004 tsunami. And each time it miraculously returned to Matara. According to the tradition, the statue has come on its own, over the waves and given itself to the care of the Catholics of Ruhunu Rata (Southern District). The annual Church Feast falls on the second weekend of September, is the single largest religious occasion in Matara that brings people from different parts ofthe Country.
  • One of the most sacred shrines in Sri Lanka. I visit very often to thank & praise Our Lady for the blessings given to me always.
