4.1/5 based on 220 reviews on the web
Admire the exuberant wildlife and feel the pulsating power of nature at Udawattekele Sanctuary. See massive trees, curving branches, and lianas hanging causally, with occasional rays of sunshine peeking through the dense forest canopy. Despite its proximity to the suburbs, the sanctuary teems with mammals, insects, and reptiles, while about 80 species of birds attract bird-watchers. Bring your bike and explore the park via its well-maintained network of trails. Other highlights include the Buddhist meditation hermitages and rudimentary shelters scattered throughout the sanctuary. Visit the information center to learn more about the ecosystem and history of the area. • A huge park, rather like a forest with many animals (Monkey families, snake, deer, butterflies, birds). There are hardly any other people on the road, therefore the chance is if one is quiet to observe animals quite large. At the end there is also a pretty vantage point. Botanists also come at their expense.

  • Waste of time for 650 Rs. We saw only monkeys and one antilopa. Other place is just usual forest. Maybe city view point is best part of it. The way which goes to the caves mentioned in the map are not permitted to enter. Beware to trust scale of map that they offer you!
  • It's a nice place to be for nature lovers. Many foreigners are visiting this place. It has a great history too.
  • It is in the heart of Kandy and good place for bird watching and walking. Also cycling can be done in the sanctuary.
  • Nice Forrest, but beware of the leeches. Bring some bugspray for your own good ;)
  • Just got to do it. It's beautiful
