  • This jungle or forest is really close to Kandy. I loved it to walk around. Monkey's, birds and a deer is saw. The park is really nice but not a lott of people go there so it's good to relax and get aw...  more »
  • The Udawattalele Sanctury is a wooded hill in the North-East of Kandy with many lianas, bamboo plants and deciduous trees. If one walks through the main gate, there's a map there. There is also a Mini Museum about the flora and fauna of this area. The routes are easy to run, because they mostly with gravel were levelled. There is also a good vantage point to Kandy. Be careful you should definitely on the leech. Best long pants into the stockings and spray liquid core SOAP SUDS on the shoes. Up on a few deer, we have spotted no animals. We were the only ones who have lost here. It is a beautiful easy hike, but nothing spectacular.

Online price listed is for input from 400 to 500 rupees us for three proposed 2000: (((Price not shown estestveeno, but quickly printed price in bloknotike and set printing (which spun its wheels and change the numbers).

  • This sanctuary is a beautiful place to visit in kandy. If u r so tired with the kandy crowd and need a place to rest or make you calm, this is the best place. Walking distance from kandy town. Can see many birds in there. There is a beautiful kandy view point. If u can find bicycles ,there is a bicycle root in the sanctuary and you can have so much fun riding through the jungle.
  • It's a good contrast to the city but costs 650rp for tourists but 30rp for locals, the issue is you don't get anything for the money, the map is completely wrong, no signposts so we ended up going in circles 3 times and no conservation happening at all. If you want a walk in the forest then it's fine, see some monkeys but don't expect anything else
  • It's an old forest,be careful mistake way,a little long way,and difficult to find anybody, but very good if you want to be alone. You can find monkey always, and there is view point at the gate near temple of teeth, you can view all kandy city and lake. Not bad. Good for lovers.
  • Probably the first declared sanctuary after becoming a British colony in 1815 , it is not an exaggeration to say that it is the lungs of the kandy city. many attempts to cut a road through this forest were thwarted by public in recent past.
  • Udawatta Kele Sanctuary, often spelled as Udawattakele, is a historic forest reserve on a hill-ridge in the city of Kandy. It is 104 hectares (257 acres) large. During the days of the Kandyan kingdom, Udawatta Kele was known as "Uda Wasala Watta" in Sinhalesemeaning "the garden above the royal palace". The sanctuary is famous for its extensiveavifauna. The reserve also contains a great variety of plant species, especially lianas, shrubs and small trees. There are several giant lianas. Many of small and medium size mammals that inhabit Sri Lanka can be seen here. Several kinds of snakes and other reptiles might be seen. Udawatta Kele was designated as a forest reserve in 1856, and it became a sanctuary in 1938
