Lankatilaka Temple, Kandy

(4.4/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
Perched on top of a rock, Lankatilaka Temple bursts with intense colors in massive murals and ceiling paintings, playful figures, and ornaments. The 1344 Buddhist temple sits on a natural stone foundation overlooking picturesque villages and rice paddies. Walk through this treasure of architecture and interior design, guided by an informed onsite curator. Barefoot indoor visits are mandatory, so bring socks during the summer heat. Nearby shops and markets give plenty of opportunities to purchase local crafts. Consider combining your visit with the other sites in the "three temple loop," of which this is the farthest. • You visit as center stage of the circuit of the three temples on the outskirts of the city (the others being Embekka and Gadaladenya) The best option is to walk along the road that winds through rice paddies and houses of locals! Very impressive!!! Approximately 3 km between a temple and another; in total 6 km! Water to drink in hand because it is a path to the lineage of the Sun.
