Bahiravokanda Vihara Buddha Statue, Kandy

(3.5/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
You can't miss Bahiravokanda Vihara Buddha Statue, a huge concrete Buddha statue visible from most spots in Kandy. If you prefer to get close, climb the set of stairs up the hill to the statue's perch, where you can enjoy pleasant views of the city. Try to spot the lake, football stadium, and tea factory from your outlook. Some devotees may leave flowers or light oil lamps to worship at this attraction. Keep in mind you must remove your shoes to approach the statue, so take socks to prevent burning your feet on the concrete. • This is a nice stop if you have the time, even if only a few photos. There isn't much literature or signage in the area explaining the history of the Buddha. The views are nice.
  • A nice city between mountains around a small lake that you can visit in a full day, where worth is Kandy walk awhile around the Lake. To the top of a mountain, there is a great white Buddha to which you can go by tuk tuk, the entrance is worth since you can upload to the Buddha and enter it, as well as having views of the Lake and the city. The best is the Temple of the tooth of Buddha, that although you do not see the tooth is in an area that has several lounges including a very good Museum on Buddhism in the various countries of Asia. There is that walking without shoes by what you recommend wear some socks old. Behind the Temple of the tooth is a cultural center where you can see some traditional dances from 5 to 6 pm. For sunset ve to watch the sunset restaurant Bamboo Garden bar that has happy hour at that time. The dinner and the atmosphere is also pretty good.

  • Didn't have a chance to visit close to the statue but a had a look from distance. Kandy city covered by all the Buddhism heritage while this statue make a mile stone.
