  • Richmond Castle is one of the historical building located in Palathota, close Kaluthara town, Western province of Sri Lanka. This mansion is famous for its remarkable architectural features and one of the few remaining buildings belonging to that era. Richmond castle was built by 'Athur de Silva Wijeyasinghe Padikara Mudali' (1889-1947), but didn't stay in this place in last days of his life. Currently is placing used as a Children Orphanage and also used for community activities of the area.
  • Richmond castle was built in the latter period of the 19th century, by a local nobleman (a grand Mudliar) who hobnobbed with the British colonial administration. It has it's own tale of love, betrayal, and heart break. You can read and learn more about it if you google search under "Richmond Castle Kalutara". It is well known for it's architecture, cooling system with natural air, and novel and innovative construction methods used in its day. It is today administered by the public trustee of Sri Lanka (the Mudliar had no heirs). A kindergarten, and primary education classes for under privileged children of the area (as requested in the last will of the Mudliar) are conducted there presently.
  • If you are nearby Kalutara. Do not forget to visit this place which hide a tragedy of a provincial ruler. An historic building created as per colonial architecture. Now this is dedicated for children as per the last will of the owner.
  • Richmonad castle has good historical value. And you can imagine the capabilities of ancient srilankans. Owner of this castle very rich and well educated citizen. This castle is built as similar to a palaces in India.
