Kalutara Beach, Kalutara

(2.3/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web)
An hour drive from Colombo, Kalutara Beach provides a huge stretch of fine rust-colored sand set over a background of vast blue sea. Clean and occasionally rough with sudden large waves appearing out of nowhere, the beach makes a good spot for board surfers and catamaran goers. Swimmers, however, should take extra caution and observe any posted red flags. You can join fishers drawing in their nets, and look for turtles. Onsite outfits offer elephant tours and monkey photos; you can also explore the many rivers by boat, but be aware of the crocodiles. Prepare for disorganized parking and a lack of public restrooms. • Vacationing with his family at the end of January of the year 2017, the hotel lived up to expectations, is not new, but very clean and well maintained! the beach is fairly deserted, but this is due to the fact that all the guests relax on the loungers on the green lawn. In January, the waves are pretty big but shallow (waist) Metro 50 so with children swim comfortably! Hotel is ideal for a relaxing family holiday, half of the campers old foreigners, so noisy parties almost does not happen, if not go on excursion, then on day 5 will be very boring!

  • Sand very gritty and we couldn't go in the sea as the red flag was always flying and we were advised it was dangerous.
