  • Not a bird enthusiast but we love nature reserves. This place is a must go for all nature lovers and a heaven for bird enthusiasts. Saw quite a few species of birds and even the shy black bittern. Gay...  more »
  • Started the tour @ 3.30pm with my italian friends and Buddhi. Buddhi knows about kalametiya well. We enjoyed the tour well. We saw gray herons, king fishers, pelicans, wisling ducks, purple swamp hen,...  more »

  • Great place for bird watching. Best visited in the September - April season. Western lagoon is muddy and there is a risk of sinking in. Best visited in morning or evening.
  • One of the most untouched birding spots. Must take a paddle boat ride to enjoy the calmness and beauty. Beach is also very clean.
  • Best Birding tour in Sri Lanka. We went in to bird sanctuary by small boat with buddhi. They are the best in kalametiya.
  • Very peaceful. We had a 3 h paddle trip in the sunset and have seen a lot of beautiful birds, e.g. many Ibis. Also from time to time we interrupted some buffalos in their bath.
  • Great place for birdwatching. There are 2 lagoons; for the western one, i took a boat tour (6-30am) with local guide Gayan; i also spent one morning viewing the western lagoon from atop Taragala Rock (near Taragala Chalets); i visited the eastern lagoon, Lunama Kalapuwa, via Ussangoda, and saw plenty of birds arriving just before sunset, and occupying the trees around.
