  • The Nilavarai Well is popular attraction in Jaffna lying in Nilaavarai in the Navakkiri GS area of Valikaamam East division. Some times referred to as a bottomless well or Deep Well, this well is caused by collapse of the top layer, exposing a limestone cavern connected to a underground water source. It is said that this well never dries up even during severe drought and the water is used by the farmers in the surrounding area.
  • This square shaped well related to Ramayanam. During the journey to Sri Lanka Loud Rama felt thirsty. Rama sent a arrow to the earth to get water. This place become a bottomless well. During the annual festival of the Loud siva temple in front of this well, local people dives in to the well. Some people says this well connected to Keerimalai Sea. Even though this water is not that much salty. Experienced diver said this water getting more salty and unclear when go deeper.
  • Situated along the Puttur road in Jaffna and flanked by a modern Sivan Kovil, the Nilavarai Bottomless Well showed no signs of its unique existence. If a visitor were unaware of its location, they might probably pass right by it due to its unremarkable surroundings. However, this was not to be the case as our search for the Well proved to be quite easy with the place abuzz with people, much to our surprise.
  • Its too deep
  • Nice to see
