Coral Sanctuary, Hikkaduwa

Categories: Reefs, Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
1.7/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web
Encounter the underwater world at Coral Sanctuary, and admire a reef rich in colorful coral formations. You can explore the water by boat, or snorkel and swim with turtles and vibrant fish. Because of the 2004 tsunami and poor management, some coral and fish in the area have died in recent years. However, the sanctuary still shows plenty of magnificent flowering coral formations, and you can see the turtles year-round. You can rent snorkeling equipment on site, but strong waves mean you should take extra care when swimming and snorkeling around the sharp formations. • This beach is located between 2 larger hotels in n.l. Hikkaduwa Beach hotel and HikkaTranz by Sinnamon. At the former hotel are also the Coral be it that most is dead by the pollution. Many glass bottom boats pollute the view of the sea and the beach, dirty petrol vapour from the outboard motors. Also you need to consider if want to walk along the entire beach that a possible bottleneck is at hotel restaurant Mama's out there can save the sea water reasonably hard against the side.
