St Benedict's Monastery - Adisham, Haputale

2.1
#3 of 9 in Historic Sites in Uva Province
Visit St Benedict's Monastery - Adisham to see how monks have preserved the style of an old English country house and exhibited its antiques. The Sylvestero Benedictine congregation owns the monastery, where a community of Benedictine monks still live and pray. However, the building was originally constructed by English aristocrat Sir Thomas Villiers, who spared no penny when designing it in the Tudor style. Emerald lawns, colorful orchids, and fruit plants surround the monastery, which has been preserved by the monks, who have even kept the furniture the library in good condition. Enjoy scenic views of the surrounding hills, giving the monastery a sense of tranquility. An old English mansion bought by the Catholic Church to accommodate monks and nuns, by a little money in passing, with the Museum part on one side and the other shop. Nothing extraordinary except that it is forbidden to take pictures inside. Banned for that? European tourists rank their devices, under the watchful eye of the guardian while the Sri Lankans take pictures with their smartphone, unless the guard to intervene. Discrimination?

The road to the monastery is unspectacular. Only walking (albeit with fantastic views) on the road long and then (without looking) through the forest. The garden is not something you have to see nice, but certainly. The premises, you can visit are still somewhat interesting, because you can get an idea, as was lived there. The jams from the monastery shop are really worth! You have served us well for the remainder of the trip at various breakfast...

Where to stay in Haputale

While Haputale offers few international chain hotels, the town has a solid selection of affordable, locally owned accommodations. Because of the excellent price point on lots of the town's lodgings, many travelers use Haputale as a jumping-off point to visit the nearby national park and other attractions. For an authentic experience during your trip to Haputale, consider staying at a friendly guesthouse or small inn, many of which offer home-cooked meals and arrange travel to surrounding areas. While this destination used to fill up with tourists, its popularity has dwindled recently, so making reservations should not present too much difficulty.
