Glenloch Tea Factory, Sri Lanka

3.3
#47 of 262 in Sightseeing in Sri Lanka
Farm Tourist Spot
See how locals produce one of the most widely consumed drinks at Glenloch Tea Factory. The factory had humble beginnings, but over time it has put Sri Lanka on the map as the fourth-largest producer of tea in the world. One of its founders was Sir Thomas Lipton, a name widely recognized on tea boxes, who purchased a tea estate and factory in the late 19th century. Enjoy the beautiful landscape and temperate climate, which offers excellent conditions for growing quality tea leaves. Take a 15-20 minute guided tour to learn how a leaf becomes a beverage; afterwards you can purchase boxes of tea as a souvenir or gift. • We were promised to a tea plantation and a typical plant, but we were received "in the string" by a little motivated woman. When we asked explanations on the tasted teas on the tea picking and go see the plants behind the factory, she asked us to move first to the store. As we have not bought enough she turned quickly and did not consider it useful to accompany us on the plantation. This is despite the tip that she was eager to Pocket personally while a tip - box is located at the end of the visit. Very expensive tea.

  • Really good tour, felt a little rushed but packed full of information. Tea sampling at the end was excellent, definitely try the white tea!! A must before this tea tour, stop at Rambula Waterfall. Enjoy guys xx
  • Good and friendly service. Better if have much more choice of tea. Manager is so friendly and helpful guy
  • Great place! Real tea factory. Not modern but old and native. Is it expensive here? Sure! But it's not easy to get great tea in your local store. For people who really understand what good tea should be.
  • Have nice area to drink tea & enjoy the weather Friendly staff But slightly expensive for tea
  • Good products and service.
