Glenloch Tea Factory, Sri Lanka

(3.3/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
See how locals produce one of the most widely consumed drinks at Glenloch Tea Factory. The factory had humble beginnings, but over time it has put Sri Lanka on the map as the fourth-largest producer of tea in the world. One of its founders was Sir Thomas Lipton, a name widely recognized on tea boxes, who purchased a tea estate and factory in the late 19th century. Enjoy the beautiful landscape and temperate climate, which offers excellent conditions for growing quality tea leaves. Take a 15-20 minute guided tour to learn how a leaf becomes a beverage; afterwards you can purchase boxes of tea as a souvenir or gift. • The Glenloch Factory offers the possibility to visit its plants in which takes place the processing of tea. You will be able to see all the various stages of production, from harvesting, drying, storage etc etc. After the tour you can also sample the different types of teas that are produced here. In the shop inside the factory you can also buy all of their products, really great! The guide who drove us was also very nice and extremely helpful. A really nice and interesting visit! It was one of the things I liked about my tour in Sri Lanka, both because it is extremely interesting to see how is the processing of tea (which I had absolutely no idea) and for the beautiful setting and scenery in which it appears the dream factory: green hills and ethereal atmosphere characterize indeed this area of the island. In my view not to be missed!

  • A very short tour. It was over before you knew it. A little bit more history would have helped.
  • Staff r great but products r over priced
  • Worker explained the steps of making all kind of teas we tasted all and it has a historical machines. Nice place to purchase a Srilanka tea.
  • Had a tour of the tea plantation, was very good, girl explained everything very nicely. Bought some tea from the factory too
  • Not the best place in Sri Lanka. Very short excursion and they give tru only 1 sort of tea. With compare to Virgin Tea Factory, whre you can taste all sorts of tea, glenloch losing it all. But it reside in good way from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya. I recommend to going to tea plantation by yourself, there is many good views, that compensate not best factory
