Glenloch Tea Factory, Sri Lanka

3.4
#64 of 634 in Outdoors in Sri Lanka
See how locals produce one of the most widely consumed drinks at Glenloch Tea Factory. The factory had humble beginnings, but over time it has put Sri Lanka on the map as the fourth-largest producer of tea in the world. One of its founders was Sir Thomas Lipton, a name widely recognized on tea boxes, who purchased a tea estate and factory in the late 19th century. Enjoy the beautiful landscape and temperate climate, which offers excellent conditions for growing quality tea leaves. Take a 15-20 minute guided tour to learn how a leaf becomes a beverage; afterwards you can purchase boxes of tea as a souvenir or gift. • The prices for food and tea are covered. The food taste like Grandma under the arm. Best man passes the tea factory. PS: I thought not time that there is canned on Sri Lanka.

  • Not recommended. We were assigned a guide to show us the tea processing process. She just repeat information and do not seems to be eager to answer our curious questions. Then, we were brought to tea tasting and the tea is tasteless like water. However, you can also visit the tea picking areas. The tea picking lady is eager to show us the tea picking process. 5 star to the tea pickers and thus we tipped the tea picking lady accordingly. Zero star for the factory.
  • A really great place. The experience was really great, especially for people visiting a tea estate for the first time. The staff was very welcoming and kind. The service was also great . The staff showed the whole process of making various types of tea after which samples of the same tea was offered for drinking . They also have a small restaurant where you can have a quick bite. The location is also splendid. The tea tasting was a really different experience and will be enjoyed by all. It will be a good stopover for all the tea lovers in the world.
