Sinharaja Forest Reserve, Galle
(4/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
A World Heritage Site, Sinharaja Forest Reserve protects Sri Lanka's last remaining undisturbed rainforest. Established as a biosphere reserve in 1978, the virgin forest is a haven of wildlife and vegetation, supporting numerous endemic species. Under the canopy of straight, high trees, observe how the birds tend to feed in mixed flocks, often with a greater racket-tailed drongo or orange-billed babbler at the helm. Embark on the verdant trails with a professional guide, who can help spot creatures and explain the array of unusual trees, birds, insects, and reptiles you might encounter. Use our Galle trip itinerary planner to add Sinharaja Forest Reserve and other attractions to your Galle vacation plans.

  • Stayed at Rain forest View lodge near the Deniyaya entrance & had a bittersweet experience. While the forest was excellent.Guide spoke no English at all. Carry water and snacks.
  • We had a super Guide. Friendly and patient, all questions answered. We have seen a lot of animals of giant butterflies, to a horde of shy monkeys and colorful birds. The tour lasted 4 hours, but the time passed so quickly, we could have stayed longer.

  • Wonderful rain forest hike. Those who prefer ease of access, I would recommend the Waddagala Entrance. But those who prefer much dense jungle, and a bit challenging hike, must definitely try the Deniyaya Entrance. Be respectful to nature and travel safe..!
  • This is one of the best place to enjoy the nature.... Evergreen forest with seven or more beautiful waterfalls are made my mind relaxed.....
  • Sinharaja Forest Reserve is a national nature park and a biodiversity hotspot in Sri Lanka. It is of international significance and has been designated a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The hilly virgin rainforest, part of the Sri Lanka lowland rain forests Eco region, was saved from the worst of commercial logging by its inaccessibility, and was designated a World Biosphere Reserve in 1978 and a World Heritage Site in 1988.
