Sinharaja Forest Reserve, Galle

3.9
#1 of 11 in Wildlife in Galle
A World Heritage Site, Sinharaja Forest Reserve protects Sri Lanka's last remaining undisturbed rainforest. Established as a biosphere reserve in 1978, the virgin forest is a haven of wildlife and vegetation, supporting numerous endemic species. Under the canopy of straight, high trees, observe how the birds tend to feed in mixed flocks, often with a greater racket-tailed drongo or orange-billed babbler at the helm. Embark on the verdant trails with a professional guide, who can help spot creatures and explain the array of unusual trees, birds, insects, and reptiles you might encounter. Make Sinharaja Forest Reserve a centerpiece of your Galle vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Galle road trip planning site .

  • Come, see, Marvel. One of the few primary rainforests, that our planet still has. Fees m.E. justified - who wants to walk untouched nature, should also be prepared to support its preservation.

  • On an expedition into the forest, we then got hired sleeves against the blood-sucker. He accompanied us to the Park nice parks Guide, who was not only bright eyes, but he could also flexibly respond to our questions about the local flora and fauna. Absolutely perfect then was a bath under a waterfall, which in hot weather came in handy. The price of transport from unawatuna, breakfast, entrance to the park with a guide and transport back to the US was 5 000 Rs. On the way back from the hotel guy approached us by Jeep to our minivan, which was a nice bonus.

  • The journey from Mirissa is somewhat tough and complex, and there are different creatures in the park, birds and insects, including Seri Blue Choquette, are attracted to the news that many leeches, but actually not much, about 4 hours of travel, only to see a small one on the other passengers ' feet. In addition to the Waterfall road is not easy to wear comfortable shoes better; it's also recommended to make the morning, because around 1, the tropical rainforest will be heavy rain.

Where to stay in Galle

A handful of accommodations can be found within the walls of the historic fort at Galle, including upmarket hotels and simple guesthouses, although the relatively few options usually can't cater to the number of visitors to the old town. Unless you reserve your spot well in advance, chances are you'll be looking just north of the fort where, closer to the waterfront, sit a range of upscale boutiques with sea views, and further back, a good number of simpler guesthouses and hotels. Nearby beach towns, and Colombo, remain popular places to stay among visitors just wanting to take a day trip to Galle.
