  • Have visited the site today (30.11.2016). Got to the hotel Koggala village to Matara train 10.12 (impression not forgotten), walked down to the beach and Matara bus station is near, we suggested that you can get route 346/3 platform is written. It reached Dondra (near the Temple), later went to before. courtyard of the temple and free and admired pofotkali elephants (2 PCs). Next to Google maps went to the lighthouse, but unfortunately it is closed. Pofotkalis' from the lagoon with views of the lighthouse took a tuk tuk, storgovavshis' with 700 to 500, went to the railway station and Council missed the penultimate train in our direction at 15.15. Photos are terrible, but it is a phone. To kompa not yet reached)

  • Unfortunately, the tower is no longer accessible, but also from the bottom you can make good photos. The plant itself was clean and well kept. Loads to the stay an you can enjoy sea views of BB´s.

  • Visited this place for a business purpose but still it's a must see place to all the Sri Lankans and of course the tourists as well. The beach, the light house in the evenings and early in the morning...  more »

  • Nice place to go for a picnic . evening sunsets are the most beautiful time to visit. You need to get the permission from the colombo to climb up to the lighthouse
  • This is considered as south most point of Sri Lanka. A wonderful creation of the nature. The beach is good for relaxing.
  • The lighthouse is no longer open for visitors according to a sign at the entrance. We asked locals and they confirmed. Apparently the old lighthouse keeper was taking payments to let tourists climb to the top against the government's wishes. Still a nice little beach to swim and view the lighthouse from a short distance.
  • Dondra Head Lighthouse is a lighthouse located on Dondra Head near the southernmost point in Sri Lanka and is the tallest lighthouse in Sri Lanka and also one of the tallest in South East Asia. Dondra Head lighthouse is operated and maintained by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. The lighthouse is near the village of Dondra, and is approximately 6 km (3.7 mi) southeast of Matara. The name Dondra is a synonym for "Devi-Nuwara" in the local Sinhala language, "Devi" meaning "Gods" and "Nuwara" meaning "City". Dondra is therefore derived to mean "City of the Gods".
  • Very beautiful place, It is considering as the southern edge of srilanka.when you are at the top of the Dondra Light house you can see the ships which are traveling on the silk way.
