St Anthony s Church Kochikade Colombo, Colombo
(4.3/5 based on 170+ reviews on the web)
Though a Catholic cathedral, St Anthony s Church Kochikade Colombo represents a welcoming and important pilgrimage place for Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians alike. The 19-century church stands on the site where Friar Anthony--persecuted by the Dutch authorities as a Catholic--performed a miracle by making the sea recede. Visitors of all faiths come to celebrate the intriguing and mystical history here. Tuesdays, dedicated to St. Anthony, tend to be the busiest, with masses held throughout the day. While this may offer the ideal opportunity to see the church at its best, visiting at other times will afford a quieter experience. • Even though being a buddhist i visit churches and this is truly a serene and a relaxing pace to calm your mind and thoughts and known to be a truly miraculous place.
  • Totally Catholic Church of Portuguese influence all white on the outside and with wooden ceilings. All the iconography is Catholic, with images of Santo António and our Lady of Fatima. A world of different faith in Hindu/Muslim/Buddhist, and Interestingly with many devotees. Someone has informed that was in the church a group of Portuguese and we were called to quarters of padre mayor and received by him, that in English told us the story of the Foundation of the Church and wish us happiness through prayer. A rewarding gesture.
