Flea Market
Head for an authentic local shopping experience at Pettah. Make your way through the labyrinth leading between the countless tents where local merchants sell their goods. The flea market is more suitable for those who enjoy a more intense shopping experience. It gets quite crowded; however, you can expect to purchase items for a much lower price than in stores. Browse everything from precious gems and gold to fruits and vegetables. To visit Pettah and other attractions in Colombo, use our Colombo trip generator.

  • Don't go! This is a mad house. Full of crammed streets and bedlam. The Dutch museum was supposed to be our escape but it was rubbish.  more »
  • A real taste of Sri Lanka, to be honest. This is where the people come to shop for fruits, vegetables, fish, textiles and everything they need, see the real market and get into the crowd, tuk tuks, lo...  more »
  • If you go to Colombo you can't reserve a half a day exploring markets in Pettah district, which is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. The place is nothing short of chaotic, but it is a unique experience! Excellent opportunity to buy souvenirs at very advantageous rates than the rest of the island (magnets 50 cents!). The heat and humidity are devastating so after a few hours you will have to go back to the hotel to change your t-shirt, drinking something cool and if possible take a dip in the pool ... but worth it! The car parked in the shade to our departure was 40 degrees!

  • This is a pretty small market with some basic stuff. The streets surrounding the market to the east is much better for shopping.
  • Very Crowded but you can find stuff for good prices. High prices qouted first, you need to bargain to purchase for the correct prices
  • Lots of bags and local clothes. crowded and it's along a street so there's cars just outside each stall.
  • Very nice and very cheap markeet i like it
  • hahaha looks ugly but can find out anything
