  • Coming from the middle east, I have never seen any buddhist temples and I am not familiar with any of the traditions, so I really wanted to visit a temple. Entry is 300 rupees per person. Its a bit to...  more »

  • After walking around the city looking at attractions all morning it was nice to have some peaceful time at this temple. With a modest fee to enter, this location provides some peace and quiet during the otherwise hectic day. The statues and adornments are wonderful to behold, and the natural beauty enhances your sensory experience. Highly recommended.
  • A majestic Buddhist temple came up to this level due to the Sole effort of the Chief Monk Ver galaboda Gnanissara Thero. Holds a annual Perahara.
  • It is a must visit place for both local and foreign tourists to Colombo. Situated within close proximity to all star class city hotels, it's great place to relax your mind and discover Buddhist customs and values of Sri Lankan's. It has a big collection of Buddha statues from various era of Sri Lankan history and also from other Buddhist nations such as Thailand, Japan & China.
  • Feels more like an exhibit of random statues and relics in a mostly modern building, than an authentic Buddhist temple. Touristy. Plus very high "tourist tax" - entrance fee of 300 LKR for foreigners. Unethical practice that unfortunately seems rather widespread in Colombo. On the plus side - they have comfy chairs, if you want to sit down for a read.
  • Situated in the heart of colombo and one of the must see tourist destinations in the Colombo town. There's a museum too. The "nawam maha perahara" is organized by the Gangaramaya temple.
