Dutch Hospital Shopping Precinct, Colombo

3.8
#1 of 32 in Shopping in Colombo
Shopping Mall Shopping
As the oldest building in the area, Dutch Hospital Shopping Precinct offers historical colonial architecture in addition to its fine shops and restaurants. Originally used as a hospital by the Dutch in the 17th century, the attraction was later transformed into a shopping and dining precinct. Pick up souvenirs, such as clothing, jewelry, handicrafts, and artworks, or find outside seating where you can sip wine and watch passersby. Wander around the two large courtyards and keep an eye out for street musicians, theater performances, and art exhibitions, too. Where to stay in Colombo

Despite its relatively low cost of living, Colombo accommodations tend to be fairly pricey. Close to the sea and the lake, as well as near the city's parks and the plazas, hotels come in the form of old colonial buildings and ultra-modern high rises, with a decent selection of each to choose from. Budget-conscious travelers should pay attention to the short rental options in the town's more residential areas, or look for the smattering of simple, but serviceable options close to the main train stations, and on the side streets set back from the waterfront.

  • This is a very nice, expensive, though really comfortable shopping experience here. No bustle and variety of beautiful things. Refreshing!  more »
  • I enjoyed shopping here and bought some quality souvenirs at a reasonable price .I ate at a couple of the restaurants and enjoyed my food at both .The history of the building was also interesting.  more »
  • A "must visit" place in downtown Colombo. Nice place to hang out. Good place to have dinner with a choice of restaurants, although a bit expensive.  more »

  • One of the Oldest Dutch hospital complex from the past. But now this is modified as a luxury shopping complex including Burger king and lot of different kind of Restaurants. Huge front area with calm environment. Best to sit & chat there at evening times
  • Neat location with lots of trendy pubs and shops to check out. Beautiful architecture that heralds back to the colonial era of Sri Lanka. Everything is well maintained, faithfully restored and blends nicely. Just a short walk from the major hotels and beach. Check it out.
  • Clean place with several various shops. Most are restaurants, with good food where you can have a sit & grab a bite peacefully, a little away from heated crowded Pettah/Fort area. Yet they are pricey. Different types of cuisines can be found.
  • Good place to hang around in the evenings. The place is nice with live music specially on Fridays. But I gets too crowded on weekend evenings and on Fridays. Good food and a good selection of Cocktails
  • Amazing Place to Hangout on an Evening with Friends. RnR has Live Music on Saturdays and a nice cheap bar. Cheers!!
