Colombo Fort, Colombo

3.4
#4 of 25 in Historic Sites in Colombo
Stroll around the old commercial and administrative heart of the city, Colombo Fort. Attractions in the area include the president's house, general post office, Colombo Harbor, and the Dutch hospital complex. Gazing out on the water, you'll see a floating mosque seemingly rising from the sea. The area mainly features old colonial buildings; however, the struggle between new and old reveals itself in the modern buildings slowly making their way among the existing architecture. Colombo Fort is currently the business district of Colombo, between the old building the large skyscrapers and hotels. Very varied.

The food in this place wasn't the best. I ordered the ajillo chicken curry and it was lacking in taste. However, when I asked them to try it they agreed with me and immediately replaced my dish. The service was excellent and the rustic atmosphere with a live kitchen definitely gave it an authentic flavor!

The harpos pizza and the blueberry cheesecake was the best. Good customer service. The prices were ok. Not much space inside for a bigger group tho..

I like the rustic ambience that they maintain inside. The food menu is small and there are only 2 to 3 chicken dishes as mains. But they do offer Harpo's pizzas as well. But despite the small selection everything I have tried has been good. The service kind of gets a bit slow cause the restaurant is never not empty but they are attentive. I would have given 5 stars but I feel they are a tad bit too expensive.

Very good food and nice staff. Reasonable prices. Try the chefs sea food feast!

Had breakfast of two sunny side eggs. Pretty ordinary. Tea was in those typical teabag unlike it's neighbor. Orange juice was sour. Service was good and attentive.

Where to stay in Colombo

Despite its relatively low cost of living, Colombo accommodations tend to be fairly pricey. Close to the sea and the lake, as well as near the city's parks and the plazas, hotels come in the form of old colonial buildings and ultra-modern high rises, with a decent selection of each to choose from. Budget-conscious travelers should pay attention to the short rental options in the town's more residential areas, or look for the smattering of simple, but serviceable options close to the main train stations, and on the side streets set back from the waterfront.
