Stroll around the old commercial and administrative heart of the city, Colombo Fort. Attractions in the area include the president's house, general post office, Colombo Harbor, and the Dutch hospital complex. Gazing out on the water, you'll see a floating mosque seemingly rising from the sea. The area mainly features old colonial buildings; however, the struggle between new and old reveals itself in the modern buildings slowly making their way among the existing architecture. • Unfortunately many of the colonial buildings tend to be permitted decaying, which is sad. This historical heritage should get restored to show future generations the history of Sri Lanka.  more »

  • Little bit overpriced because of the nearby restaurants. Ambience is great and crowded on Friday nights. Food was good and you can enjoy a candlelight dinner here. The restaurant is popular for their pizzas and serves cocktails as well. Not spacious enough.
  • Overly priced, poor quality dishes in pitiful portions. Some 5 star hotels in Colombo provide way better value for money dining! If you are looking for a dining experience in the area, steer clear of Harpo Colombo Fort Cafe. You cannot charge 5 star prices for mediocre food! Take a leaf out the Colombo Cricket Club Cafe that offer great value for money!
  • Amazing thin crust pizzas, very authentic. Many vegetarian options... 18 inch pizza very good optiom for bigger groups.
  • Lots of vegetarian options and a very large and diverse menu including tapas, pizzas, curries and other Western food. We had a table of 16 and the service was fantastic and very prompt. Food was delicious and drinks were well priced.
  • this is very good place to be if u are in colombo.. price is a bit high compared to other restaurants in colombo.. price per head is around LKR 2000. helpful staff and gud italian food..

Where to stay in Colombo

Despite its relatively low cost of living, Colombo accommodations tend to be fairly pricey. Close to the sea and the lake, as well as near the city's parks and the plazas, hotels come in the form of old colonial buildings and ultra-modern high rises, with a decent selection of each to choose from. Budget-conscious travelers should pay attention to the short rental options in the town's more residential areas, or look for the smattering of simple, but serviceable options close to the main train stations, and on the side streets set back from the waterfront.
