Ruwanwelisaya Dagoba, Anuradhapura

(4.3/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Hailed for its architecture, the stupa of Ruwanwelisaya Dagoba has a sacred reputation among Buddhists around the world. Once you see its pure white dome towering overhead, it's easy to understand why. Although ancient, the stupa stands as one of the world's tallest monuments, and also holds the titles of one of the Solosmasthana and one of the Atamasthana (places of veneration). Keep in mind you have to remove your shoes to enter, so consider visiting in the morning for cooler weather; if you go in the afternoon, you have to tour the attraction barefoot on the hot stones, or carry a pair of socks with you. Using our custom trip planner, Anuradhapura attractions like Ruwanwelisaya Dagoba can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Extremely hot stones to walk on but really worth it! You need to take your shoes off and wear trousers. Shorts not allowed!
  • The dagoba is impressive, with that white that is seen from far. Visit the barefoot, with the solemnity of the site was a nice experience. He day that visited the area had much luck since was the day of the Poyade, Moon full and had many pilgrims that went to pray, many local, dresses of a white pristine. Impressive. The area for walk is beautiful. There are many stalls to take fruit in slices or samusas spicy
