Visit ancient Dagoba of Thuparama, the oldest Sri Lankan "dagoba," which represents the earliest monument of Buddhism. After the introduction of Buddhism, Devanmpiyatissa built the dagoba in the third century BCE, using the right collarbone of the Buddha in its construction, according to legend. Throughout its history, the dagoba has been destroyed and rebuilt numerous times, but has never lost its distinctive bell-like shape. You need to take your shoes off to enter the site, so bring some socks with you to protect against the hot stones and sandy paths.
