  • ...erreicht to the monastery with a local tuk-tuk drivers. Despite the end of the civil war, which made uncertain, the East coast of the country for the past two decades for travelers, a mass increase of travellers is still low in comparison to the West and South coast. The monastery is a Buddhist meditation Center, which is nearly 2300 years ago. The standing ruins, which are spread over five Rocky Mountains tell the story of a huge Hermitage as Ampara was a flourishing trading base in the East of Sri Lanka. The monastery was later abandoned because of the shift of the kingdoms and South Indian invasions. It was advised in the middle of the jungle rising forgotten and rediscovered until 1964. Worth a visit, and the view from the top is breathtaking.

  • A place for meditation.
  • Buddhangala is a serene Buddhist hermitage. I use to visit Buddhangala when ever possible and observe "dasasil" for a week or two. The calm environment will compel you to become a yellow robed buddhist monk and stay there for ever. This is one place where you can worship, RELICS OF LORD BUDDHA, ARAHANTH SARIPUTTHA AND ARAHANTH MOGGALLANA on Poson poya and few days after wards, every year.
