Calle Alfonso I, Zaragoza

4.2
The main thoroughfare in the city's historic quarter, Calle Alfonso I is lined with boutiques and cafes. The street is best viewed from the Basilica del Pilar in Plaza del Pilar, a central plaza located at the end of the street. From the basilica you'll see a row of buildings all constructed in the same style. In the 19th century, the street was part of an urban development project, which regulated construction to ensure residents built their homes using the same aesthetic. A walk along this path is required. From here you can reach the city's main attractions and the most interesting districts (tube).

The read comments that it's a beautiful Street. Well, perhaps those who write such criticism have traveled little. It is a normal and common, Central, pedestrian street with arrival to the pillar. But just that, nothing more. To say that it is an extraordinary Street first has to visit for example las Ramblas or Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona, the historical centre of Prague or Amsterdam, the narrow streets of Corfu or Mykonos, Tallinn, etc. I don't want to seem pedantic but out of your comfort zone makes you open your eyes and discover places that improve your conception about the structural beauty of the thoroughfare.

Where to stay in Zaragoza

When visiting this historical city, most visitors opt to stay in the old quarter, or Casco Viejo, for its convenient proximity to many of the city's iconic landmarks and compact network of local eateries, shops, and traditional architecture. The old quarter is located along the Ebre River meaning that you are only a scenic waterfront stroll away from the rest of the city's buzzing neighborhoods. Several newer hotels are located in the commercial zone centered around Gran Via, one of the city's main arteries, where plenty of shops and well-known restaurants line the buzzing streets. Alternatively, head to the University district for a mix of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and a vibrant nightlife, where accommodation tends to be a bit cheaper.
