With excellent views of the reservoir of Yesa (Aragon), protected protected by the Sierra de Leyre or wandering and surrounded by nature, this important monastic complex receives numerous visitors every day. The famous casket of Leyre, that is - permanently - at the Museum of Navarra (Pamplona), is a work of art. We arrived rather late and it had come out the last guided tour. Thanks to 2 priests who we met there, we were able to visit the Romanesque crypt, a real gem. It is unique because of its size and its huge capitals. Then we went to mass with Gregorian chant, which was held at 19:00 and we contemplate the great Romanesque Portico of the Church. Essential.

The monastery is surrounded by a garden that invites you to rest. The visit without a guide eran3€ and with Guide € 3.50. Recommended the guided as they tell you the history of the crypt and Church (only that is closed to the public in both cases)

Built in the 11th century is situated in beautiful surroundings with views of the reservoir and nearby mountains. To highlight the crypt and the doorway. The monastery can be visited for free or with a guided tour, but for 3.50 euros the last option is worth.

  • The monastery of Leire or Salvador de Leyre is located in Navarra and early Romanesque style. Without a doubt the most beautiful is the crypt, while the surrounding area is nice as well as the Church itself. A good idea to see if your near.
