  • The Palacio de Santa Cruz, is a real gem, an extraordinary architectural work within their apparent simplicity. It is currently the seat of the Rectorate of the University of Valladolid. Houses several jewelry, wholesale, if we exclude the own building with its sober and elegant cloister, is housed in the Chapel and is a valuable and beautiful Christ, by Gregorio Fernández, "El Cristo de la Luz", that already by itself only to justify the visit. The building also contains another "jewel", this most unknown, the historical library of the University of Valladolid, of sober and elegant invoice, in which, among the numerous and valuable specimens, guard an incunabulum, the blessed of Valcavado, of incalculable value. In addition and if the above is not enough, is home to two important museums, the of the University of Valladolid (MUVA) and the Museum of African art Alonso Arellano, a very interesting collection of African terracotta figures. His visit is a must if you are visiting Valladolid.

  • Yesterday we visited this Museum of African art, and were really impressed. The content is enhanced even more by the beauty of the place where is located, the Palace of Santa Cruz. A gem only, and sadly still unknown by the majority of the people. Highly recommended a visit which is also free. If you have opportunity, ask by Eulogio, one of the guides, which will explain what I pleased.

  • One of the most beautiful buildings in Valladolid, this Renaissance Palace is part of the University one of the oldest of Spain.
  • The procession of the Santísimo Cristo de la Luz (Holy Thursday, 11:00). The procession is part of the Santa Cruz Palace, seat of the Rectorate of the University. Santísimo Cristo de la Luz (Gregorio Fernández, h. 1630). Property of the National Museum of sculpture, is assigned indefinitely to the Universidad de Valladolid, that houses it in the chapel of the Palace of Santa Cruz. Praised by writers and historians (is called La Perla), is one of the masterpieces of its author, who captured the attitude of the Christ in the age of the Cathedral of Plasencia altarpieces, 1625, and the Cartuja de Aniago, 1634. It was a long time in the chapel of the Daza, the convent of San Benito the Real, current of the Santísimo Cristo del Consuelo; in 1843 it appears already outlined in the Provincial Museum of fine arts, from 1863 to 1913 to the chapel of the Colegio de San Gregorio, headquarters of the National Museum of sculpture, being transferred to the University of Valladolid in 1940, that it is home to the chapel of the Palace of Santa Cruz.

  • A building with a monumental exterior. On the inside you can see a typical Castilian Palace. It also houses the Museum of African art, which is truly recommended.
