Fallas Museum, Valencia

Specialty Museum Museum
Experience a piece of Valencian culture at Fallas Museum, featuring life-size figurines made of cardboard, wood, and plaster. This art form originated with junk thrown out at the end of winter--the owners would dress it up and draw faces on it, and the humorous tradition caught on. The museum displays some of the best pieces, which date back as far as 1934. These days, the figures are brightly painted and resemble caricatures. They often portray political themes, or comment on trends, society, and sexuality. No guides or brochures are offered, but there is a video explaining the history of the figures.
