Fallas Museum, Valencia

(4.3/5 based on 500 reviews on the web)
Experience a piece of Valencian culture at Fallas Museum, featuring life-size figurines made of cardboard, wood, and plaster. This art form originated with junk thrown out at the end of winter--the owners would dress it up and draw faces on it, and the humorous tradition caught on. The museum displays some of the best pieces, which date back as far as 1934. These days, the figures are brightly painted and resemble caricatures. They often portray political themes, or comment on trends, society, and sexuality. No guides or brochures are offered, but there is a video explaining the history of the figures. • This interesting and unusual Museum is located opposite the Palace of art Reina Sofia, it is housed in a former monastery of San Vicente de Paul. In 1834 the year it housed the barracks, he later was a military prison. The Museum called the ninot Museum yet. What's it? Falla consists of a central figure, surrounded by smaller figures are "ninots". The Museum Exposition consists of "indultats" ninots (Valencian in local language-"army building dolls"), who, since the year 1934, were rescued from the fire by popular vote. Popular shapes and avoid the fate of being parched, but it was spontaneous. In 1934 year famous master shapes Regino Mas suggested to contest new ideas for the Fallas of Valencia City Hall include pardon dolls within the official programme of the holiday. The proposal was accepted and started in the same year held expositions ninots indultats where the Commission each Falla exhibited to the people's Court, one of the best figures. In the distant year their were in the basement of the central market, where people can vote for your favorite doll. 30000 votes were collected and has won composition y nieta Abuela (grandmother and granddaughter) with up to 23000 votes. It's something we can see at the entrance to the Museum. Nowadays this exhibition with the vote held since the beginning of February to 14 March at Museum Prince Felipe. The exposition occupies two floors. The first exhibited in 1934 dolls 1974 years and stands, which clearly shows the techniques of manufacturing figures using wax and cardboard. • A wonderful experience, as did not know all this art of Ninots and faults. Here you can see how they are produced these statues, wood and then covered it with a caul? There is a head of impressive Cantinflas, where you can apareciar the magnificent work of these Falla artists. Then you can see wonderful completed Ninots, and much imagination! I would have liked to see other museums of this type. I'll have to go back. Do not miss it during his visit to Valencia.
