Must see · Aquarium · Science Museum
Many visitors come to the city expressly for Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, an eye-catching cultural and architectural site that’s home to a science museum, opera house, planetarium, IMAX movie theater, and open-air oceanographic park, the largest such aquarium in Europe. Built in the 1990s at the end of the former riverbed of the Turia River, the futuristic complex was designed by renowned architects Santiago Calatrava and Felix Candela. The principal building, housing the science museum, is filled with hundreds of hands-on exhibits. Attendants can help you find your way around, or leave you alone to enjoy the displays at your own pace. Once you’ve had your fill of exhibits and jostling crowds, enjoy a stroll through the site’s gardens, featuring hundreds of plant species indigenous to this area. Visitors curious to learn the stories behind all the buildings in this giant complex are encouraged to book a guided walking tour. Put Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias and other Valencia attractions into our Valencia trip planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • We were told many good things about this place. But we found this place to be bland. Not worth visit.  more »
  • Nice area to walk around. You can go on a small canoe on the water for cheap price, which is very romantic. But even without the canoe trip, it is still worth visiting.  more »
  • This place is an absolute “must see” if you are in Valencia. The modern architecture of the pavilions as well as the setting is absolutely worth a visit. One could even say you haven’t seen Valencia.....  more »

  • A must see! I'm not much into museums but this place is not only beautiful but nice. For people interested in science, especially DNA and genetics is so much fun, lots of cool details. Take it slowly because to visit all sections may easily take more than a day. But it is completely worthy!
  • What a wonderful place to explore and photograph. We were there to enjoy the amazing architecture. We'll come back again to enter and see all the exhibits another visit. We spent the entire afternoon visiting the exterior of all of the buildings there together. This ensemble of buildings is the most innovative and distinctive collection of amazing architectural works I have ever seen. Truly a work of creative genious.
  • I almost didn't visit during my stay in Valencia, but on a lark I decided to go on my last day in town. When I arrived my jaw dropped... it was incredible to look at. It feels like you've arrived in the future. Wish I'd had the time to attend the opera in this amazing building.
  • This is a great place to spend the day strolling around and learning about arts and science. Great place to take photos and mingle with tourists as well as Valencia residents. If you have to drive, make sure you arrive early as this is a very popular destination and parking gets taken up early.
  • Very nice architecture! Love it there. Great parc, good science museum with exciting exhibits. The aquarium nearby is huge where a large variety of animals can be seen. Great area for a great day out!!!
