Castillo de Tossa de Mar, Tossa de Mar

Categories: Castles, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.8/5 based on 1,600+ reviews on the web
Originally constructed to spot marauders at sea, the walled medieval Castillo de Tossa de Mar now looks out over the much less menacing scene of locals and vacationers lazing on the wide beach below. This castle-cum-lighthouse on the top of Mt. Guardí dates back to the 12th century, and you can reach it via a walk or a short tram ride up the hill. Once at the castle, stand by the cannons pointing out over the cliff to imagine yourself defending the city against medieval pirates. A handful of restaurants built within old houses in the castle walls provide ideal spots for lunch. • Great great castle with lovely views of the city, the beach and the sea! Charming narrow way to go up, a little tiring for a dog with bad knees! ;-) The train went from the city centre and up, and down again!
