Puerta de Bisagra, Toledo

(4.6/5 based on 850+ reviews on the web)
Cross through Puerta de Bisagra to see how it looks from both inside and outside the city, and to appreciate its interior. This mighty gate is of Moorish origin but was rebuilt in the 16th century, not for defensive purposes, but to demonstrate the great power of the emperor. On the city side, look for the doubled-headed eagle that is the focal point of the coat of arms for Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor. On the outer side, look for city’s coat of arms. Be careful: The gate faces a busy roundabout. Put Puerta de Bisagra on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Toledo itinerary planner.

  • Compare it, from humility, with the Puerta de Alcalá in Madrid, but I think, with more history. With the coat of arms of the Eagle two-headed city, very nice and still fulfills its function, it serves as gateway, although there are other so many doors, but it is the historical input typical, better to walk the old cadco. Very cool.

  • Their views are breathtaking. Access is pedestrian and you can see it with total peace of mind. Site essential for Toledo.

  • It is the gateway to the old town of Toledo. Place of visit home to Toledo. Visit inside and learn about its history is worth

  • Fantastic. Tour guide was great. Our imagination ran wild here.
  • It is the gateway that connects the city of Toledo from the North (Madrid). In the vicinity we can find "La Vega", a large park in which there are some kiosks and where is located the market Tuesday. Also some nights are medieval markets (normally at trade fairs or circumstantial events)

  • To my mind, today is the main gateway of the city, also the most beautiful and complex, have to observe it well to realize great architectural strategy Prodefensiva, unfortunately the majority spend long, looking for many other monuments and corners of this beautiful metropolis. A must visit.

  • Entrance to the city from the door hinge, you seem to be in the middle ages. Good state of conservation.
