Puerta de Bisagra, Toledo
(4.5/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Cross through Puerta de Bisagra to see how it looks from both inside and outside the city, and to appreciate its interior. This mighty gate is of Moorish origin but was rebuilt in the 16th century, not for defensive purposes, but to demonstrate the great power of the emperor. On the city side, look for the doubled-headed eagle that is the focal point of the coat of arms for Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor. On the outer side, look for city’s coat of arms. Be careful: The gate faces a busy roundabout. Put Puerta de Bisagra on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Toledo itinerary planner.

  • Reach Toledo and see the Bisagra gate and the walls gives you an idea of how the city; they make you want to immediately immerse yourself in it and see its monuments and traditional streets. Never it miss, nor that of Alfonso VI just to the side, or the promenade which takes you up to the bridge of San Martín.

  • To see but nothing to report or particular. You have no doubt her story and is one of the monuments to see in toledo. I recommend a fleeting visit.

  • It marks the entrance to the historical centre of the city. It is a good starting point for visiting Toledo since there is an office of tourism to the side. Well preserved. Too much traffic to your about.

  • Fantastic. Tour guide was great. Our imagination ran wild here.
  • It is the gateway that connects the city of Toledo from the North (Madrid). In the vicinity we can find "La Vega", a large park in which there are some kiosks and where is located the market Tuesday. Also some nights are medieval markets (normally at trade fairs or circumstantial events)

  • To my mind, today is the main gateway of the city, also the most beautiful and complex, have to observe it well to realize great architectural strategy Prodefensiva, unfortunately the majority spend long, looking for many other monuments and corners of this beautiful metropolis. A must visit.

  • Entrance to the city from the door hinge, you seem to be in the middle ages. Good state of conservation.
