Iglesia de San Ildefonso Jesuitas, Toledo

(4.4/5 based on 440+ reviews on the web)
A Jesuit cathedral, Iglesia de San Ildefonso Jesuitas was finally completed and now stands the same height as the nearby Alcázar Castle. In the wake of opposition by Cardinal Siliceo, it took over 150 years to build. The church bears the marks of having been designed by many different architects, with sculptures, reliefs, carvings, and columns representing each man's vision. All of them are equally well-crafted, but especially impressive is the central relief, "Imposition of the Chasuble,” depicting the church's namesake, San Ildefonso. Climb one of the two towers for a panoramic view of the city. Make Iglesia de San Ildefonso Jesuitas part of your personalized Toledo itinerary using our Toledo itinerary builder.

  • Church built by the Jesuits, with white interior, very beautiful. It has two towers on the main façade, and still allows access to climb one of the towers, enjoy the view from up there, and then climb down the other Tower. Is one of the attractions of the "tourist in the firmament". Worth the visit!

  • Jesuit church stands on the border of the tourist zone. To dare cross the border worth the climb the Bell Tower of the Church. One way the panorama of Toledo, which it has been preserved since the middle ages. Can be compared to the famous painting by El Greco "plan Gorda Toledo"-practically not distinctness. On the other hand-close streets, roofs, churches, small enough region, opening a lot of harsh beauty. Seeing it from above, it is impossible to refuse from the journey through the maze, akin to taken in the film "the name of the rose"

  • Iglesia de San Ildefonso, which is a large and beautiful church in the Baroque style, was built by the Jesuits, who had acquired land here in 1569, and the construction took place in 1629 – 1775. The Church was, however, taken into use already in 1718. Inside the Church is cruciform with a large dome in the choir. Billboard on the main altar by Alejandro y Luis González Velázquez shows Maria there over rows San Ildefonso a messe hagel. Ildefonso is, however, almost hidden behind the gilded gantry columns in marble on the altar. In the very narrow vessels operated in parallel with the main ship, there are four chapels on each side. You can walk between the chapels through narrow openings, and therefore one can theoretically well call San Ildefonso of a Basilica. One can climb the hundreds of steps up the Tower, along the way pass the organ loft, and be rewarded with fantastic views of Toledo's take, and from there see the Cathedral, Alkazar and the many other fine buildings in beautiful Toledo. Iglesia de San Ildefonso is certainly worth a visit.

  • fantastic view of Toledo from its towers, recommended
  • excellent views from the towers, definitely worth it
  • The Perfect View of TOLEDO. You will regret if you missed the site.
  • Beautiful point of view and nice church !
  • The issue is the following: you walk through the door, go 5 meters and half Church have vista. In that moment you realize there is a cord and a man at a table charging input (2.5 €) and wonder really?. At that point you realize counts that you are ripping, there are 2000 churches in Spain free access and you will not pay to see this. And how you are first and foremost a gentleman you suppress the urge to take a picture, you shouldn't be rude or cheeky, but kindly give you return and sales where you came.
