Castillo de San Servando, Toledo

Castle
Medieval times come alive at Castillo de San Servando, a regional landmark that figured prominently in El Greco's landscape painting "View of Toledo." Originally a Benedictine monastery, the structure became property of the Knights Templar in the 12th century. Templars turned the entire complex into a fortress meant to protect the area against possible Muslim attack, but the structure lost importance during the 14th century. Allegedly haunted by a mischievous knight, the castle remained neglected for several hundred years. Today, the renovated fortress houses a youth hostel, which makes a good base for day trips around the area. • It is a pity that this castle can be visited. We can appreciate its beauty and insurance which has an interesting history but to be a hostel there is no possibility of seeing it.

  • Highly recommended. It is the second time we stayed at this simple and complete hostel located within the castle of San Servando. The service is very attentive and pleasant. It has all the comforts. The views from the hostel on the city of Toledo are also charming. The hostel also has a rear garden that is a joy for the traveller. It also has swimming pool for guests, although we can not comment on this facility since we have never been at this hostel in summer season.

more »

  • Muy buen alojamiento
  • Its suck. really suck. They do not change money even 5Euro bills to coins. They said they don t have money, doesn t make sense at all. And I complained about it, they gave me coins. They lie to customers
  • Confortable personal agradable de 10
  • We are pilgrims. And this all appears way guides El Levante/Suereste. The receptionist treated us poorly. As if we make a favor by staying us. That he did not attend to the pilgrims, there you take alberguista card, that there is no different treatment, that this is a business ....
