Alcantara Bridge, Toledo

#15 of 126 in Things to do in Toledo
Enter the old city over Alcantara Bridge, the same bridge the ancient Romans used. Walk across the Tagus River and get excellent views of the city, while enjoying the architecture of the bridge itself. Conveniently, this also happens to be the fastest route into the city from the train station. Declared a national museum in 1921, this bridge is a lasting part of history, as well as a practical means of entering the city. • To see this bridge first visiting by car from Madrid, and I will. For Toledo of the fortress was surrounded by the Tagus River seemed to be on the Defense an important bridge. Early in the morning, city walks, then tourists will never no where. Great landscape.

  • Having looked at the map I again decided this was by far the best way to get from the train station or car park near the train station into the old town. Staying on the station side you just have to w...  more »
  • Alcantara bridge we walked, ending our long hours walking the walk on the handsome Toledo, heading by foot to the train station. In General, my advice, hitting Toledo, do not use any means of transport, otherwise you risk missing out on any krasotishhu. The bridge is majestic and surprisingly ancient. A view of the town and the castle of Alcazar with simply stunning. Yes and the arch gate, built in the 8th century (!) just makes you shut up and listen to immortality.

  • Very pretty bridge with an absolutely gorgeous view. It's worth taking a tour around the town to see all of the bridges.
  • So beautiful. Very recommendable to have a perfect point of view of all the city. It is near the city center, but you need to go down stairs to be there.
  • Beautiful fortified stone bridge. Great view to see the river and old town from below
  • One of my favorite places in Spain. I recommend going at night when the spotlights arte lighting up the bridge and the surrounding cliff faces.
  • A romantic view of the ancient city.

Where to stay in Toledo

When visiting Toledo, staying inside the old city walls allows for on foot access to all of the area's historical landmarks as well as a tight network of shops, restaurants, and museums. Similarly, staying in the old center, which sits on a raised hill overlooking the city, avoids a daily hike to the city's main attractions. Many old buildings in the center have been transformed into boutique hotels and guest houses, allowing visitors to experience the rich historical heritage and beautiful architecture of the city.
