Playa La Arena, Tenerife

4.0
#8 of 30 in Beaches in Tenerife
One Tenerife’s few natural beaches, Playa La Arena makes up in cleanliness and beauty what it lacks in size. This small stretch of sand consistently wins European Blue Flag recognition for excellence. The black sand can get quite hot during summer, so make use of the lounge chairs and umbrellas for rent. When you want a break from the hard work of relaxing by the water, take a stroll to Los Gigantes, a set of cliffs overlooking the water. From here, you'll have commanding views of waves crashing into the rugged coastline. Cafes and restaurants line the beach. For travelers who use our online itinerary creator, Puerto de Santiago holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Playa La Arena and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

Visit the rocks left of the beach, the entrance on the way to the beach to the left that in the private sector. There among the rocks backwaters are quiet and clean with crabs

A Black Beach, where the sand is burning and the sea is a bit treacherous as the tide, but it is worth to go snorkelling, especially on the right side of the beach, variety of fish close to the shore and undeterred to tourists. Good services, cheap (and indispensable) umbrella and the Pancho restaurant on the beach.

On arrival in half of the bay there was brown sludge which looks like effluent. It may have been algal as referred to in a local forum. This is a very popular/ crowded beach. There are plenty of shops including a supermarket on the sea front. Lots of amenities on the beach, very clean changing facilities, showers and toilets. Several boardwalks to the sea. Facilities also for disabled bathers, including a reclining "wheelchair" to get into the water. When I went there were small but powerful waves so not so safe for children. Lifeguards were attentive. The fine black sand was clean and oh SO hot. Beach shoes are a must. In the water there are pebbles and rocks. No problem as the water quickly becomes deep. We had a good day, our swimming costumes are smelly now... Hopefully it's just algae.

Health Warning !! If you are unfortunate to be ill during your visit to the resort, PLEASE AVOID the Medical Centre in Playa de la Arena at all costs, even though it's central location and multi-lingual doctor, make it appear a good choice. There are a number of local private doctors who will give you professional and financially ethical care and not take advantage of you when you are ill and vulnerable. Sadly I am not alone in my experience as the Internet will reveal and due to my terrible experience and the after effects of my treatment, I will not visit again. Such a shame as Playa de la Arena is a beautiful, peaceful resort with lovely people.

Similar to other Beach, but with MORE bans, saves lives unpleasant and boring. With JELLYFISH, not indicated for families with small children. If you're on this beach win and climb two Northern beaches where you can be quiet and safe. Sellers in nearby shops can get asking for 2 Euros for a 1 water, 5lit. There is a supermarket in sight. Also avoid trade shops-the price varies as if you were in Morocco and it is understood that must be negotiated. The zone aims to be Spain and thin when it isn't.

Beautiful beach. Be very hot at your feet. Take water shoes! Soft and clean lava sand. There is a life gard. In nov-jan is the sea often too wild to be allowed to swim. (Red flag) But it is wonderful to see.
