Las Montanas de Anaga, Tenerife

(4.9/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
With a rugged coastline and jagged peaks, Las Montanas de Anaga is a place of legend, beauty, and history. At 1,024 m (3,600 ft), this mountain range is the highest point in both the Canary Islands and Spain itself. Explore the mountains’ many protected areas and marked trails, spread out through a number of national parks, and marvel at its massive geological formations, formed in a giant volcanic eruption over 7 million years ago. Discover viewing areas high above the Atlantic Ocean, and keep your eyes open for the witches that populate the area, according to Tenerife mythology. Grab a bite at a cafe or restaurant in one of the villages, or bring snacks along for a picnic on the way. Be aware that many of the inner parts of the mountain range are inaccessible by car, and wear proper footwear, as some of the routes are very rugged. For this same reason, hiking in the area is not recommended for those with mobility problems. Put Las Montanas de Anaga on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Almaciga vacation generator.

  • A few minutes from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, capital of the island of the Canarian archipelago, is the Parque Rural de Anaga, world BIOSPHERE reserve. It is impossible to visit it and be impassive to its natural beauty of endemic species and an abrupt and peculiar orography.

  • The most beautiful part of Tenerife, so different, as busy as the spectacular mountains, worthy of Jurassic Park.
